Wellbeing at MRKH Stars
My name is Laura and I am the Well-Being Coordinator for MRKH Stars!
I joined Stars at the start of 2023 as I was ready to start my advocacy journey. I had never really spoken publicly much about my MRKH and I suffered in silence for many years with my mental health regarding my diagnosis. I was getting professional help for a while as I was in a really dark place.
I took on this role to help other people that are in my position. To help them use some of the methods I used to get myself out of bad head spaces.. and try to see a light at the end of a long tunnel when it comes to MRKH. It’s a tough journey, but I am here for you!

What is Well-Being?
As a student nurse, I can give you a text book answer to this question.. “The state of being comfortable, healthy or happy”
But what does “well-being” really mean to you? Does well-being for you mean getting enough sleep, and eating well? Does it mean feeling confident in yourself and doing well in school or University?
Having a foundation of what well-being means to you is the first step in dealing with a condition that is going to affect you for the rest of your life. For me and my well-being, it means to look after my body, my soul and my mental state.
I try to do things that keep these things active, like reading, getting some sun, and quitting unhealthy habits like drinking. I try as hard as I can to surround myself with a positive environment, and remove toxicity.
My Role as Well-Being Coordinator
My role as well-being coordinator is to be available to anyone struggling who needs guidance and support. I create posts almost weekly to show ways on how to cope and navigate a life with MRKH. I act as a shoulder for people to lean on when they feel like they aren’t coping with the struggles involved with MRKH.

Wellbeing and Dilators
These are two topics that for me certainly did not go hand in hand. Dilation is a stressful, isolating and sometimes painful experience, so of course it’s going to effect your mental health. So how can we navigate both at the same time?
It’s a tricky one but these are things that I did. First and foremost, therapy. It is so important that whilst dilating you are either receiving therapy and/or have been cleared by a therapist to start dilating, I made the mistake of not doing this and this resulted in more of an effect on my mental health. Secondly, self-care. Self-care is so vital in maintaining good mental health while dilating, this could be things like rewarding yourself after, doing an activity to calm your mind, having a bath and really trying to ground yourself. Finally, remember that dilating is a process that is going to benefit you, it might not seem like it at the time, but as you grow older you will appreciate that you made it and that you did it. It opens avenues for you to have pain-free sex when you think you are ready, which we all deserve, MRKH or not.
Dilating was one of the most draining things I had to do throughout my diagnosis but I’m thankful that I did take some steps to protect my mental health, which I can’t stress enough that everyone must do 🤍
